Final semester trendz..

It’s our final moments here in this place. No matter how bad the place might have been but it will always occupy a special place in our hearts. It was not long back when innocent and dreamy boys & girls left home for a place called NIT Jamshedpur. As the four years journey comes to an end, the bunch has become a confident, mature and independent lot; also bad enough to face the life ahead. There is another fragment of the beauty called life waiting to unfold. That is the big and bad world of the corporate. Before we move into our professional lives, we got to finish our final semester. That is the purpose of this post. I want to bring to light some of the common traits seen when someone is in his final semester in our college.
As everyone has got into one company or the other, people discuss the pros and cons of the companies. The focal point of the discussions being the compensation packages. The recent hot topic being the rise of the packages by 10-15% across all sectors. The people then shift to ways to spend the money that we will earn in another few months. That’s a question that sounds like “how would you like to spend money in your dreams” for the “experience certainty” people. What are my plans?? Give something special to my dear parents, a small token of love for my younger brother (though his list is very demanding) and a digicam for myself; rest (which is doubtful) I’ll put into my bank account. I can meet my bro’s demands until I become committed to someone. Till then he can milk me as much he can.
Since these are the last moments together, people turn very emotional and want to enjoy each other’s company to the fullest. Thus there are all sorts of parties and get-togethers. There’s phylum parties, campus treats, roomies get-together, project partners outing, clubs farewell parties and anything people can relate to and form a group to have a party. Gharwaale are also happy to send as much money as we want. They think it is the last time we are asking for money. What they definitely do not know is we would still need something extra as it will be a tough thing to survive with the meager package we are all set to get.
Another peculiar thing as observed and drafted into a theorem by one of my friends, is that people begin to like everything about the college in particular the girls during the final days here. The same person would be cursing the girl(s) throughout the three-three and a half years but in the final semester he would be dating these ladies. The friend, who put this into a theory, can be seen nowadays not dating any of the girls in the campus but with almost all of them in photos. He took good advantage of the recently concluded UTKARSH and PRAVAH, our cultural and techno-management fest respectively. Another of my good friends has become a sensitive gentleman who was a total freak earlier and he is going great with a beautiful lady, in fact two it is. Moreover the kanjus is spending some money now; just that his wallet is going lighter gives us immense pleasure.
Since we will need some photographic memories to look back and relive our college days, people are on a mad spree to click as many photos as they can. I do not think there will even be a single nook or corner in the campus which has remained virgin from the camera flashes. I would like to change a popular saying in Hindi to one of my own describing this “click” phenomenon:
"Jab final year public ke din khatam hote hai, tab woh camera ke saamne bhaagta hai."

Forget our out-going batch, even juniors are getting emotional and in fact tears have started rolling down everyone’s cheeks in the farewell parties. Though there are some who will be very happy and are eagerly waiting for us to leave. The juniors have already started counting the number of girls who would become free in another few days. There is one whom everyone wants, to leave this college fast. This friend of mine has an amazingly very high concentration of girls around him. The bad luck for the juniors is that he is staying here in Jamshedpur with Tata Motors. So next time probably he won’t come in his bike but a big Tata truck and take away all the girls for a mega date.

By 10th May our batch will be out of the college but by that time we would have left an everlasting mark on the college. One of my dear friends has rightly said “we may not have been best in terms of individual abilities but collectively we are indeed the best batch in our college’s history”.

CLASS OF 2007- a class of its own

Ending notes (inspired from Rober Frost)::

The corridors are lovely, dark and deep;

And I have memories to keep.

I shall have miles to go before I sleep,

But this part of my journey I’ll long to RELIVE.
