My Tryst with Rains..

4th July::
Me=Assam=Rains. Yes it rains a lot in Assam but weather patterns are changing. So while there's floods in Mumbai, it's unusually hot there. In fact last year the state board schools for the first time extended the summer vacation. Rains..Rains..Truly there's something romantic, surreal and idyllic about it. Rains can be very dull too and can make you feel even worse if you are in a bad mood. That's in tune with the saying "Everything has two sides to it". Anyhow I love the rains and let me share some of my love affairs with it.

I have been experiencing this for the past three years now. Whenever it rains a little more than it should, trains to and from Howrah station are postponed or canceled. Basically there's water logging at Santragachi and Tikiapara, they are two stations just on the approach to Howrah station. Its monsoon time, yes trains are getting delayed, canceled and short terminated. Railways sure must try to find a way out of this when the problem comes up every time it rains. Once I'd left Jamshedpur at 6 in the morning and I was back in college at 6 in the evening from Howrah. Why..because my train got canceled from Howrah because of a heavy downpour. That was in 2nd year and I became the laughing stock for that day.."accha kaisi rahi teri chutti".

5th July::
The rain played the spoilsport today. I was in mood to go out to Bhubeneswar but father didn't allow me because of the rains. Here at home I am still a little boy. You can enjoy the rains only when you do not have any work, otherwise it brings unwanted breaks. If you are free, just sit comfortably at a place so that you feel the cool sensation on your skin but do not get wet from the rains. Have a cup of tea or coffee. Get a book. aah kya mazaa hai. One important thing, no music. Instead listen to the rains. My best experience of listening to the rains was during rafting in Dimna lake in Jamshedpur. The instructor told us to just float(we were wearing life jackets) and not to make any noise. The rain drops falling on the Lake's water just at our eye level, the wet and cold feeling and the surrounding hills with cloud cover on their summits, that was heavenly. Aah this is lifting my spirits....good. Let me go and watch those snaps.

6th July::
Rains call me to play football. I simply love the game in the rains. No problem if I do not have company. Just give me a football and I will get soaked up all by myself. Slide and take in the mud. what fun..after that take a shower and feel the warmth of your fresh clothes. Sip some tea and have some "garam" samosa..paramananda.

Getting wet in rains has some benefits too. It makes you immune to it. That is you do not get ill and get cold. Raj says playing in rains in college is helping him now. While many of his colleagues in Tata Motors are getting ill in the rains of Jamshedpur. He is all fine.

7th July::
I remember the evening the TCS results were declared almost a year now. There was sense of accomplishment and joy. I'd landed up with my first job. I just took out the football and went into the ground with Samik. We took some shots, then just sat there in the rains. We did not talk much but we were in our own thoughts, just trying to savour the moment and keep it permanently in a part of our memory. It still feels like yesterday.

The sun is finally out today, so I'll finish off my affairs with the rains. I know rains, you will come back to me. For now,

Here comes the sun..
Here comes the sun..
And I say it's alright.
-Beatles

Lovely man...what a post! Neither can I remember the day you folks got the job. It was raining so fucking hard and I just got to know that Gandhi got it too. He'd always had a special place in my heart. I remember, I'd walked all the way to computer center, in those rains, just to wish him. It was some experience! As for getting wet in the pains, I've always been up for it. The very feeling of it the drops drenching you by every miniscule inch is a feeling that one just got to experience! You are lucky man! Got absolutely nothing to do, stay online all day, get wet in the rains, get to be the eye of your family and just while away time like there's on tomorrow!!
