Life in a 8 inch diameter

This ad line coming on ESPN these days truly captures the essence of the beautiful game of football. If there is any thing that can unite people, bring the whole planet to a standstill,I will say that’s football.Football is not just a game, it is something more than that. With the FIFA world cup just round the corner, soccer mania has already started gripping the people in a mad frenzy.

We do not have an Indian team playing in Germany, ya there’s one Vikash Dhorasoo of Indian origin in the German squad, but besides that there is no Indian connection to the world cup.So we are left with supporting one of the 32 teams in the world cup that features our favouite players. My friend Dion is rooting for ITALIA, as he says for Italy, why?because most of his favourite club Juventus’ players are in the Italian squad.Well myself going with Argentina. This time they will make up for the first round exit in the previous edition of the world cup.Coming back to the point about an Indian team,I wonder how many more years it will take to see 11 Indians in the FIFA world cup.The All India Football Federation(AIFF) must first restructure its organisation and do away with politicians as its members. It is high time the AIFF does something to uplift the game in India. Thanks to ESPNSTAR the football game has found quite a large number of supporters in our country. The AIFF must capitalise on this and come up with plans to prepare a TEAM say in the next 10-15 years. It can start with organising competitions in schools to make the game popular among kids.It can start training academics with help from foreign coaches and inputs from former Indian players.I will be fortunate if I get to see an Indian team in the world cup in my lifetime. We have got too many Sachins and Dhonis. Now we want someone to follow in the footsteps of Baichung Bhutia and IM Vijayant.

Well friends, till we get our own team its back to outsourcing our support to one of the teams in the world cup.Just sit back, switch on your idiot box and watch the FIFA world cup.

Rathindra is hibernating...

I’ll be taking 2 months long break from net though if time permits I’ll try to make a post.Actually now a days we are really busy with our assigments, class tests and viva voce.Infact some of my friends have outsourced their works to their juniors especially the GULTIS.Then from 22nd may our endsems start.

In between this hectic schedule we managed the north east phyllum farewell party on 12th may. The party was possible because the responsibilty of organising it went from our hands to the 2K4 juniors and they gave it to the 2K5 batch. All in all it went well and I’ll never forget it for one more reason other than the fact that it was the time to bid adieu to the 2K2 seniors. The reason is that the party transformed a boy called Rudra into a man.Rudra has come a long way from being a shy and intovert kind to a more friendly and open minded person since his 1st year in the college. This multi talented Rudra is now more mature and carries an aura of confidence with him.

There are certain charged up points in life that transform you and it lasts for a lifetime. The last farewell was such a point in Rudra’s life.I also remember Subhra’s visit to IITkgp’s Springfest changed him from a serious pappu(one who’s studying 24*7) to a moderate pappu. Now he gives time for some leisure moments with his friends.I firmly belief the college life prepares you for your future in all possible ways.It brings you out of the coccoon, the familiar territory of the family and friends into a world of strangers.

Well those were some personal feelings.Ya coming back to the point, I’ll be doing my vocational training as part of my curriculum from next month till the first week of July. That training I’ll do either in Oil India Limited,Duliajan or Numaligarh Refinery Limited,Golaghat. That depends whether we get shifted from Duliajan to Cuttack. Then after the VT our campus season starts on 12th of july with TCS.So that explains my hectic schedule for the next two months.I have prepared a draft of a post so if I complete it in between I’ll post that draft otherwise it will be two months for my next post.

My holiday destination.....

Baithen Rahen Tasavvur
Re Jaana Kiye Hue.
Dil Dhoondta Hai
Phir Fursat Ke Raat Din
.

This Gulzar thoughts will aptly summarize our feelings when we go out of our college in another one year.Yes we’ll miss our idylic days in nit jamshedpur. Why I say our college as a holiday destination because there is so much of leisure time. Some people study for their future, some go for a movie-marathon,some spend their time on the net and there are some who just doze off. Thanks to so many holidays(courtesy the Indian calendar which celebrates everthing from birth of thousands of mythological characters to birth of peace-idol MK Gandhi,I fear in another 20 years of history being made we’ll be celebrating each day of the year for more than a single reason.), we get a lot of time to hone our various skills. As a matter of fact we’ve become vociferous speakers with so much of gossip going on all the time!!!Add to the official holidays, the 2 days weekend offs and the bunked classes(that number is quite big in our electrical branch). So where on earth you will get so many holidays.Isnt it the place to be?In another 1-3 years most of us will be working in some company where there will be deadlines, tight schedules, then we’ll think of our college days.

I’ve previously mentioned about TOPFLOOR,well that’s what has come out of so much of leisure time.TOPFLOOR is the means for time pass, that’s not just adda sessions where we keep on gossiping but we do a lot of constructive karma.Yes we came out with the idea of THE WALL MAG which is our guide to useful information, creative pieces, surveys on all sorts of things and many other interesting stuffs.Let me add here that TOPFLOOR is a new phenomenon,a new culture defined by a bunch of boyz of the topfloor of hostel visvesvaraya n a few 1st floorers.Basically we have somewhat made a sort of syndicate to enjoy our stay in this college to the fullest.

If we are asked to write an account of our day-that went-by, probably there will not be much to write about. There’s an exception to this, our friend debu(Debashish Roy).Last night we were all there on terrace(you cannot be inside your rooms in this hot summer), then debu started to tell about the PPT(pre placement talk) of accenture. He went on and on and on.I was thinking if he’s got a couple of hours more than the regulation 24 hours in a day by some magic. How does he do so many things and that too he completes the task given to him with care taken of even the smallest details. He’s a responsible chap, I must learn something from him.So there are few who are busy in our college.People keep themselves busy by doing diferent things. There’s Shayon who is always in the computer centre,Rudra who creates tunes & wallpapers(calls them sigmalogix creation),then there’s Krishnan always inside his room with his oxford dic,n arun 3:16 to frustrate us all with his tomfoolery. There’s never a dull moment in TOPFLOOR.

River Kharkai is nearby, its sandy banks compensates for a sea beach. At a distance in downstream u can see bathing beauties, yes black bathing beauties the buffaloes. No there are no other beauties around!!!There are only a few hang out places in Jamshedpur. If you are a nature lover go to the Tata zoological park, love birds can try the beautiful Jubilee park, pappus(scholars) go to Centre of Excellence & SNTI(Shavak Nanavati technical institute) and the singles just enjoy on the stairs of Yash Kamal complex. There’s a lot of options of eating out here. The food of the restaurants is quite good. The ones with a strong heart can go on various programs conducted by TSAF(Tata Steel adventure foundation). The reason I didn’t mention cinemas is because there is only Payal cinema where you can manage to see a movie. But no problems we enjoy 24*7 movie marathons in our hostels.

That’s my holiday destination…..nit jamshedpur
