Musings on the nostalgic past…
Thanks to my father’s job I’ve been fortunate to explore and enjoy different cultures and people. I can enjoy that privilege for another 6-7 yrs.All these years of living and understanding of the melange of cultures in India has done quite a bit in shaping me up as a person that I am today.
I came to this this planet earth in the year a man said from up above “saare jahan se accha hindustan hamara”. The place was Bongaigaon in Assam. So my journey started from western Assam. Through Barauni and Guwahati my memoirs are vague. Then I was in Madras where I started my schooling. The school waz KV Island Ground,Madras. I can only recollect a very few madrasi frndz. First and foremost is Ali Baig with whom I used to share my tiffin box.Then there were Shailu, Tinku n Senthil bhaiyaa, my colony friends.
I don't have any contacts with this very old friends of mine, tht’s why I am writing this musings so that by some luck I can find them.
My journey now comes to Sundergarh in Orissa. Hind Zinc Vidyalaya was my masti ki paathshaala. I’ve very fond memories of this place. This laid back town was just the utopian place for enjoying your early childhood days. The hill tops, the boulevards of mango n cashew trees, the rivers were the places where we often went on picnics or just go for a cycle ride. The food in the picnics was just horrible. It was just cooked enough not to cause any digestion trouble, there was no proper taste. well then we were a bunch of 10 years olds. From this point of my journey I remember almost all of my friends. Bijay Horo, R.S.Prakash, Sujit, Suman, Sukhimaa, Swagatika, Snydhamai were some of my classmates in HZV.
Then again my journey continued to Katras,Dhanbad. This was one part of my journey which I hoped to end soon. Not everytime you get all things as you wish in your life. Here I waz in KV Govindpur area-3. Sumit, Rakesh TV, Vinod, Pooja were some of the classmates here. Thankfully in a year we got transferred to Barakar,Asansol. Sundergarh, this place and Sibsagar(later) hold a very special place in my life. I was in KV Maithon Dam. What a location the school had. Just beneath the embankment of the DVC Maithon Dam. Our’s 3rd floor was at the level of the water in the reservoir. I’ll never forget our very own FRIENDS CLUB. Vicky, Micky, chota chotu, bada chotu, bunty bhaiya, monu bhaiya and the funny brothers chunnu,tunnu,munnu; all of us had a great time together. Here I would like 2 mention my good friend Suman Ghatak from KV Maithon Dam.
Yes I am back in Assam, in my home town Sibsagar. So finally its KV Sibsagar where I finish off my school days. I had wonderful friends here and they still are. There was this besharam madrasi Anil, Pi Rajat, mashook Jintu, chandu ka bakra Somnath, padhaku Abha, two by two Pallabi, crazy Sahnaz, khasi Kongkon, chasmees Priyanka, darzee Pakiah, jallad Subiran, kanjus Nitul, bhaal Bidyut, beya Bidyut. Interesting set of teachers we had. Burman ma’m was really very helpful to me. She was not even my subject teacher as I didn’t have biology. Wow wow wow none of boyz who took bio cleared the preparatory/pre board exams/tests but finally all managed to get through with flying colors when it came to the final exam. Thapu (Thapliyal sir) was really a character. He never lost an opportunity to criticize the Newtons and Faradays. He talked as if he was an englishman from England. Another character was Chandu (Chandrasekhar sir) who failed to make Somnath understand the nitty gritty of calculus n coordinate geometry. Well chandu has now moved to US. Raju (Rajendran sir), Bhaisu (Bhaisare sir) were other who taught us. There was this joke about Bhaisare sir; how many types of rays are there? Answer was alpha ray, beta ray, gamma ray and Bhaisa-re(y).
The journey comes to the present times. I am here in NIT Jamshedpur. In another one year I’ll complete my studies here and move on. The journey called LIFE goes on and let me quote Robert Frost here to finish off my musings:
The woods are lovely,dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep;
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep…
